Teen bedroom
A monochrome scheme that met a twelve year old’s wish for dark walls and her parents’ wish that they not be too dark. Two thirds grey to one third white, warmed with rust, mustard, mango wood and wicker.
The challenge was to meet the wish list of a 12 year old with her parents’ requirements for the room. The daughter wanted dark walls whilst her parents weren’t ready for a totally dark look! In addition we needed to incorporate her existing white bed, desk and wardrobe and ensure plenty of storage for the future, space to do homework and to chill out.
Compromise was reached with a monochrome scheme with boho touches and pops of rust & mustard as well as bringing in the warmth of mango wood, wicker, living plants and a cosy rug.
The wall treatment with two thirds dark grey / one third white looks sophisticated and this south facing room can take a dark colour well. Black and white pattern features on the curtains, rug and cushion. The mango wood and wicker cabinet brings warmth and sophistication. New wooden shelves with black metal brackets give ample storage for school books and display space for plants.
